Background

After completing the SHE triathlon in Taupo earlier this year (and raising more than $2400.00 for the local Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) support group in Hawke’s Bay), Carly has decided to train and enter the New Zealand Ironman next year. She will also continue to raise funds for the HDA for a special project.

Towards the end of 2005, Carly decided to shed her couch-potato skin and began a new fitness campaign. To provide an achievable goal, Carly and her friend Karen, entered the SHE Triwoman triathlon in Taupo.

Then came the idea to use the triathlon as a means of raising funds for the local Huntington’s Disease support group.

Carly’s “Dad” (step-father, Geoff), has HD and she saw this as a way of returning the valuable support that the group offers her family.

Carly achieved her goal and completed her first triathlon, coming home in under her goal time and raising well over her target of $2000.00 for the Huntington's Disease Association (Hawke's Bay).

Since then ...

Two weeks after completing the Taupo triathlon, Carly entered the short course Shed2 triathlon, run by the Hawke’s Bay Multisport Club.

Carly now has the benefit of an excellent coach and has started serious training for the next NZ Ironman. She has a programme of events to complete in the build-up to March 2007, including triathlon events, marathons and the half Ironman in January 2007.

As a new member of the Hawke’s Bay Multisport Club, Carly is enjoying the benefits of quality training with like-minded people, some of whom have represented New Zealand.
